Use of bone scintigraphy in the early diagnosis of bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Case report and review of the literature

The main aim of the present report is to show the potential utility of bone scintigraphy for the diagnosis of jaw osteonecrosis. We report the history of a 62-year-old woman underwent breast cancer surgery in 2010. Moreover, patient received postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Intravenous bisphosphonates were also added to the treatment strategy to reduce the risk of bone metastasis. However, a hypermetabolic focus on left hemimandible was evidenced with a bone scintigraphy during follow up. Combining anticancer drugs with osteoprotective agents in prostate cancer—A contemporary update

Recently, a plethora of life-prolonging cytotoxic, next-generation hormonal, immunotherapeutical as well as radionuclide therapies has emerged as a standard care for metastasized castration-resistant prostate cancer. Being strikingly effective in cancer control, these novel therapies might in fact exert a beneficial impact on skeletal events. Palliative treatment of bone metastasis using radiolabeled bisphosphonates is a well-known concept proven to be safe and effective. A new therapeutic radiopharmaceutical for bone metastasis is 177Lu-DOTA-zoledronic acid (177Lu-DOTA-ZOL). In this study, the safety and dosimetry of a single therapeutic dose of 177Lu-DOTA-ZOL were evaluated on the basis of a series of SPECT/CT images and blood samples. Natural history of bone metastasis in colorectal cancer: final results of a large Italian bone metastases study.

ABSTRACT Background Data are limited regarding bone metastases from colorectal cancer (CRC). The objective of this study was to survey the natural history of bone metastasis in CRC. Patients and methods This retrospective, multicenter, observational study of 264 patients with CRC involving bone examined cancer treatments, bone metastases characteristics, skeletal-related event (SRE) type and frequency, zoledronic acid therapy, and disease outcomes. We presented a case of recurrent metastasis from epidermoid cancer that occurred in the left clavicle of a patient with a history of laryngeal cancer treated on April 2005 with extended hemilaryngectomy, neck dissection and chemoradiation therapy. On September 2008, he developed a left clavicular metastasis. The disease was initially well controlled by chemoradiotherapy but it recurred 17 months later.
